Stanley Rangers 10

Leigh East 58

Leigh East completed their fifth league win on the spin with a ten try victory at short-handed Stanley Rangers.

The hosts could only name thirteen players, while injuries and holidays reduced East to sixteen players. It couldn't stop their juggernaut, nor another sparkling display from hooker Andrew Ball.

The talented 22 year old has taken the division by storm this term and collected a hat-trick to add to his growing tally.

The visitors made a rapid start, scoring their first try after five minutes when Tom Fletcher supported Tom Worthington. Worthington had another strong day with the boot, and converted. Virtually from the restart, East found their scoring groove again when Ball broke from his own half and Jake Beaumont supported to fly 45 metres for Worthington to goal.

Stanley responded with a 40-20 from Kieran Hyde and Daniel Grice touched down and converted to bring them briefly into the contest after 17 minutes. East snapped back to their game seven minutes later with Ball darting over following a long spell of pressure and a succession of penalties. Ihaka Watene went in with some fancy footwork from close range. Worthington goaled again but struck the posts with his next effort after home winger Jonny Dickinson was sinbinned and Stanley put on a team warning.

East quickly took control with Chris Dootson finishing a fine pass from Watene before Fletche rran in his second after a high tackle on Jay Yarwood.

Seconds from the break, East scored their seventh try as more good work by Yarwood was rewarded through Ball. Worthington was again successful with the boot and at half-time, anything looked possible with the visitors 40-6 up.

The second half didn't live up to the billing an the hosts rallied, scoring the first try from close range by Chris Grice. Response came quickly with Dootson crossing for his fourth try in two weeks; Worthington goaling brilliantly from the touchline after fifty minutes.

Three minutes later, Worthington sliced through himself from close range to open a 52-10 advantage before Ball completed the try scoring after the hosts had been marched upfield shortly after the hour. Worthington added his ninth and final goal with East unable to break through again despite best efforts.
