Oldham St Annes 38

Leigh East 14

Leigh East twice hauled themselves back into contention in their latest NCL game, only for highly fancied Oldham St Annes to eventually power clear.

Callum Fletcher and Josh Berry scored tries in the first twenty minutes to push St Anne's 8-0 clear.  Adam Holland was sinbinned nine minutes later for disrupting a tap restart but East struck before the break with Bernard Aboagye touching down for an unconverted score.

There was still just enough time for Ryan Powell to dot down for the hosts and a James Barran goal ensured a 14-4 half-time advantage.

Early in the new period Kieron Prescott scampered over and the game was back in the melting pot at 14-8. Two tries in seven minutes seemingly made it safe for the hosts. Young prop Dylan Turner claimed the first before John Deakin ran in the second. Both were converted by Barran to make it 26-8 before East rallied with Prescott going the length of the field and Adam Holland tagged on the goal.

A strong finish from Oldham St Annes saw them claim the win as Sam Sykes went in before Barran added the final try before the end and kicked his 5th goal.

East return to action in two weeks' time when they host Hensingham at Ledgard Avenue on 23rd April with a 2.30pm kick-off.
