Leigh East V Stanningley Match Review Leigh East V Stanningley Match Review

East dominate at the avenue and make it three wins in a row in the league.

Leigh East 68 Stanningley 10

Leigh East returned to winning ways in league action against struggling Stanningley. In total East ran in twelve tries, with four from flying wing man Josh Adudwumaa and three from fleet footed hooker Andrew Ball. Tom Worthington also weighed in heavy on the scoreboard with ten goals. The Leeds based side gave as good as they got in the opening period of the game, dominating possession and territory before taking the lead through winger Liam Downs after sprightly running from former Leeds and Wigan wing Mark Calderwood.

East hit back with a sparkling try from Ike Watene. A set scrum play involving Tai Tapou saw the second row bounce off a couple of tackles before Watene raced away. It was full flow from the hosts as Chris Dootson and Josh Swift made inroads on the right before Watene added another good finish. Worthington goaled both but couldn't add the finish to Jake Beaumont's 24th minute try.

Two quickfire tries from Andrew Ball took Leigh East further clear and although East couldn't take advantage of a superb Adudwumaa break with Billy Allred being brought back in the act of scoring and then the excellent Tom Fletcher was held up over the line, they led 26-4 at half-time.

As in the first, Stanningley came at them from the start of the second period. They opened well with Josh Turner diving over from dummy half for Dean Parker to goal. At 26-10, Stanningley threatened a revival, but this was snuffed out by three tries in eleven minutes. Adudwumaa snared the first from a scrum play before being sent haring away for his second moments later. Substitute Adam Holland got in on the scoring after 56 minutes with a weaving run through the middle of the defence and with Worthington on target with the boot, it was 46-10 and the Yorkshire side were looking at damage limitation.

East were in no mood to oblige, scoring four more tries, Adudwumaa seared away for a glorious third try thanks to unselfish play by Watene and Allred to bring up the half century and there was no let up despite Josh Tate missing the chance of a third try for the visitors.

After 69 minutes Andrew Ball broke and found Holland in support for his second try before Adudwumaa sped away for a sixty metre 4th try spectacular. There was still enough time for Ball to cause more damage with another high speed raid resulting in his hat-trick with Worthington slotting over his final goal to bring up the 68-10 result.
