Andy Mazey confirmed as Operations & Development Director

Chairman Dave Coyle is delighted to announce that Andy Mazey has agreed to take up a newly created voluntary position at Leigh East with immediate effect.

No stranger to the club having been a valued sponsor and associate for the past few years Andy has been assisting the club behind the scenes throughout that time.

He brings a wealth of business and senior management experience to the table and in his day job is the Managing Director and owner of the Leigh based S R Waite Group.

Andy has valuable professional rugby league administration experience as a former board director at Leigh Centurions and has wealth of contacts in both the professional and community game.

In his new role, unique in amateur rugby league, Andy will work closely with Chairman Dave Coyle, Head Coach Paul Wingfield and key personnel within the club continuing to implement and maintain partnerships and sponsorship agreements and also helping optimize structures and off field development and performance.

Speaking about the news Dave Coyle said “I am delighted Andy has accepted this strategic position at the club which is yet more positive news on the back of securing the services of Dave Parkinson in the newly created press & media manager position.  Having Andy onboard with us officially is a big coup and a move that demonstrates the club is continuing to look to the future and aims to be the best it can be while remaining sustainable and retaining its core values and one club philosophy. Andy has the Leigh town and community in his blood and like all our valued volunteers and members has the best interests of our club and young people at heart”.

Paul Wingfield added “Having known Andy for over 25 years as a friend, school mate and more recently as a passionate supporter of both grass roots and professional rugby league, I think this official appointment comes at the right time for the club and for Andy.

He’s already invested a vast amount of his personal time in developing the clubs web-site and media accounts,  almost working single handily at times and has implemented and delivered several key projects for the club.  These projects have involved player recruitment and a trainee / apprenticeship scheme for our young and talented players that are looking to secure their futures, whilst also playing rugby league at a competitive level. Behind the scenes he has also hit and exceeded annual sponsorship targets by securing several key sponsors on long term deals, which in short is due to his pragmatic approach to developing relationships with both existing and target sponsors.

Following on from the appointment  of Dave Parkinson……by securing Andy’s services on a more formal basis, I feel that the club is on the right path to success both on and off the field and I’m very much looking forward to 2017.

Andy said: “I am thrilled and really excited to be joining Leigh East in an official capacity. The structures that have been put in place to date have laid a very strong foundation for the future and the facilities and people are second to none in the community game.

The clubs community focussed “One Club” approach throughout makes engaging with partners, sponsors and the wider community as a whole quite easy. With the excellent website and media streams as a shop window and the expertise of our newly appointed media manager we have a fantastic platform to promote our partners and associated businesses.

I am looking forward to working with Dave, Paul and the guys to help drive forward the development strategy as they write the next chapter in the rich history of Leigh East ARLFC”.
