The A Team Update The A Team Update

Leigh East’s A team are back after a two month resting period following their first successful season under the new management of Ryan King and Kevin Anderton.

Last season saw the A team achieve promotion and reach the leagues play-off grand final in which they lost out to an outstanding Pilkington Recs side.

Pre-season started at the beginning of January for the lads. The New Year has seen an increase in squad numbers including new faces and some old returning ones all which we welcome warmly to Leigh East. The first two weeks of pre-season have been tough linking together and training alongside Paul Wingfield and his First Team but all the lads have worked extremely hard.

The A teams first challenge will be on Saturday 6th February when they welcome Woolston Rovers to Ledgard Avenue for a 2pm kick-off. Saturday 13th February the A team test their ability as they welcome Division Two Grand Final Winners Orrell St James to a mouth-watering day of rugby league down at Leigh East for a 1pm kick-off to coincide the John Lewis Tournament. The A Team will then have a two week break which within will see the lads supporting the final of the John Lewis Tournament on Saturday 20th February.

Friday 26th February will see the lads back in action as they look to remain holders of the Lloyd Pugsley Memorial Trophy as they make the short trip to rivals Leigh Miners for a 7pm kick-off.

Head coach Ryan King has stated that Working alongside Stu Pugsley to get this event organised is a real pleasure, it guarantees a fantastic game in which players and supporters of both clubs look forward too. All proceedings raised on the night will go to the junior sections at both clubs.

The Lloyd Pugsley Memorial Trophy rounds up the A teams preseason as the look to start the new season early in March. North West Men’s League are yet to confirm fixtures, venues and kick-off times but will be made available once confirmed.
