SALFORD CITY ROOSTERS 22

LEIGH EAST 50

A dominant performance from Leigh East clinched a play-off spot for the Ledgard Avenue club with the visitors in complete command, especially in the first half when they took a 30-0 lead before Lee Salisbury claimed the hosts first try.

By that stage, East had posted five of their own. Pat Grainey opened the score, finishing a fine short-side play from thirty metres following sprightly dummy half work by Martin Roden. Hooker Roden was next on the scoresheet following Ryan Gray's break and an offload from Curtis Littlewood. Josh Swift was first to react to a fine kick by Adam Holland and Sam Grainey added a strong finish from close range for East's fourth try with barely half an hour played. By the time Will Bishop had grounded and Adam Holland kicked his fifth goal it was 30-0 and cruise control - confidence restored following a few testing weeks in the East camp.

Next came Salisbury's intervention with Andrew Muscat goaling for a 30-6 half-time score.

Leigh East cut loose again early on in the second half when Roden fed Bishop for his second,  before an attractive passing move was finished by Swift again on the right. The Roosters pulled a try back through Klaus Ndinga, but East mintained their dominance when Roden was again the architect for Littlewood to score. Bradley White responded for the hosts and having taken a high tackle on the line, Muscat added his second goal with a penalty before Ihaka Watene gave Sam Grainey another running chance and the centre picked up his brace. Holland was unable to add to his seven goals with the final word going the way of Salford City Roosters when White plucked Penn's pass out of the air to dash under the posts on an intercept for Muscat to kick his third goal.

The win sets up an away date with Askam this coming Saturday where East will hope that a victory will see them progress to the Promotion Final.
