Leigh East are delighted to announce the appointment of Dave Parkinson as Press and Media Manager.
Hot on the heels of announcing a ground breaking partnership with training provider DMR, Leigh East can also confirm the appointment of a Press and Media Manager in the form of local rugby league enthusiast and journalist Dave Parkinson.
Dave, until recently the voice behind Leigh Centurions TV, linked with the club midway through last season, although his commitments elsewhere took him away for an extended period in late summer.
Despite this absence the club were happy with his involvement and have now asked him to come on board in a more formal arrangement.
"All this stems from Paul Wingfield in truth." Dave explained.
"He got in touch with me and asked about potentially coming on board, filming games and looking towards increasing the profile of the club in the local media."
"I was able to do this for about six weeks and then again for the last couple of games of the season."
"This led to my involvement with Lancashire which was a fantastic experience, and I am really happy that Leigh East approached me about extending my role with them."
"While having a varied skillset and solid links throughout the RL media world, I see this as a good opportunity. The challenge ahead is an interesting and appealing one, especially with the onset of social media and increased use of video, something I know the club are already embracing."
"I only want to enhance this and also put my own stamp on the type media generated. I look forward to meeting people from right across the age groups at the club and am keen to chat with as many as possible, so we can look at promoting everything that is happening at Leigh East."
Commenting on the news, on behalf of Leigh East Andy Mazey said:
“As part of the ongoing development at Leigh East we are continually looking for ways to improve communication. By securing the services of someone of Dave Parkinson’s standing we feel this is a huge step forward not just for Leigh East but the community game as a whole.
Dave is someone I have had the pleasure of working with previously on a professional basis, so when his name came up in conversation with Paul earlier this year while considering bringing him on board, i could not recommend him highly enough. Paul was responsible for bringing Dave into the club to work with the open age initially and we also managed to secure his services for Lancashire ARLFC whom the three of us have been heavily involved with this year enjoying a great deal of success.
Dave will now operate in a wider club role for East, in addition to continuing his open age duties for Paul he will also oversee and pull together match reports for all the age groups and teams and have an angle on all media matters. He is a creative thinker and has some great ideas that he’s looking to implement in the coming months and year ahead.
Chairman Dave Coyle and the committee have backed this move having been highly impressed with Dave’s work. Bringing someone of Dave’s standing to Leigh East will only serve to accelerate progress in continuing to raise the profile and further enhance the image of what is fantastic community club.
I know I speak on behalf of everyone connected with the club as we extend a very warm welcome to Dave Parkinson as the new Press and Media Manager for Leigh East ARLFC”.
