Leigh East 2ND Welcomed Oldham St Annes’ down to a sunny Ledgard avenue and it was Oldham who took early advantage of a nervous Leigh East start.

Oldham scoring 2 tries in quick succession from kicks and converting to take them out to an early 12 nil lead.

No words needed the east boys knew what they needed to fix up against a lively Oldham outfit and it was promptly delivered with a sweeping play from 60m out with Jay Yarwood diving under the sticks unchallenged. Craig Dean converting .

The next try was again off some patient play and a quick play the ball and superbly support by Craig Dean to score, to bring the scores to 10-12.

The next try epitomised the confidence that East where gaining when a slick passing movement saw Chris Hamer take a short pass and race 25m to score, again Craig Dean converting to lead 16 - 12 at half time.

East started the 2nd half where they left off when Jake Beaumont raced over and Craig Dean again adding the extras to lead  22-12.

Ryan Hughes was next to score racing 70m unchallenged by a tiring Oldham Defence Danny Grainey adding the extras to lead 28 - 12.

The heat started to take its toll on both teams and with the plucky Oldham team gaining 5 repeat sets on the east line it was inevitable that they would score and also adding the conversion from out wide to take the score to 28-18

A nervy and tired last few mins for both sides as each team traded errors but the East defence was resolute and closed out a well earned victory.

The victory was just the tonic for the boys as most of the games this season have seen the lads fall just short with game mamangment lacking at times but there was no way this was going to be let slip against a busy Oldham Team.

Man of Match : Safraz Jama who rolled back the years with a top display
