East Wolfpack U9s win at Hindley East Wolfpack U9s win at Hindley

Match Report by Ian Irwin

Hindley welcomed the East Wolfpack to their ground today to what proved to be a very defensive orientated game that East eventually to managed to win on a cold, wet sunday morning. In fact the conditions couldn't have been much different from the week earlier when it had been a sizzling, dry 30 degrees!

Hindley are a well organised outfit who had clearly learnt from their earlier defeat in the season. They spread the ball well in the opening first minutes and ran in the first try against the Wolfpack which clearly woke them from their Sunday morning slumber! Due to the wetness of the ball and the intense defences, there were a number of handling errors on both sides. However, a Bradley McDonagh pass out to Rory Dearnaley levelled the score at 1-1, which remained for most of the first half, before a Ewan Irwin try just before the end of the half gave Wolfpack the lead.

The second half was much of the same and it soon became apparent that Hindleys' game centred around preventing the Wolfpack 6 and 7 from spreading the ball out to their backs.

However, as anyone that watches the Wolfpack know, danger can come from anywhere and strong running from Harvey Halliwell broke the Hindley defence wide open well in the Wolfpack half. He then sprinted clear of all the cover defence to provide that valuable cushion to the lead. A final solo effort in the corner by Bradley McDonagh then took the score to what appeared to be a comfortable 4-1 win, but it was anything but this! An excellent defensive effort by the boys lead by Colby Davies who was an noticeable absentee last week against Ince proved the difference in this hard fought game on a wet, cool, summer(?) Sunday morning!
